Last night we had dinner at the restaurant in the Lawlors Hotel, Dungarvan. The food was excellent but the music at the pub was even better. It was by far the best traditional music we’ve heard so far. This evening was at least partially to celebrate Elaine Stevens’ 70th birthday. Before the evening was over I danced with Elaine and was even signing with the vocalist. Brenda and I helped shut down the pub at 11:00. But this is not unique for us; we’ve shut down Danny Mann pub in Killarney on several occasions.
Dungarvan to Waterford: Click here to see today's ride. Today’s ride around the coast was pretty spectacular. Once again the small lanes were traffic-free. But it was pretty darn hilly. At one point we had a very steep descent to a cove. One tandem started up the other side and broke his chain. It took a while to get this repaired and so slowed the day for 6 of us – resulting in lunch from 1:00 to 2:00. So three tandems took the shorter route. The final ride into Waterford on the old Tramore road was a wonderful, smooth, tree-lined lane. Traffic in Waterford was pretty intense, especially around an elementary school letting out. “Hello, bike people!” one kid shouted. There was no rain today. Wind, yes, but once again it was mostly behind us.
Photo right above is where the chain broke. Couldn’t ask for a more scenic spot. There are fewer and fewer thatched roofs as shown on left below.
