ABBN43: Niagara Falls, NY Rest Day

2009-08-02 010  2009-08-02 015

On Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday the falls are illuminated with a light show.  The photos above were taken last night (Sunday), probably before the light show but before my bed time.

By Sunday evening I had washed my bike (but not polished it or lubed the chain) and done my laundry so Monday is pretty free.  -- Follow up on last night: (1) I did find a bottle of wine. (2) Dinner at Denny’s was surprisingly good. (3) I finally had towels when I came back from dinner. Today, the room was made up and I have towels by noon.

I didn’t get up until 8:00 this morning; me sleeping late is a rare event. Spent the first hour with USA Today at Starbucks, then had a bagel at another cafe and went to a movie about Niagara Falls.  Yesterday I commented on Niagara Falls, N.Y and said it was sleazy. This was Brenda’s and my impression a couple of years ago; Rainbow Blvd was full on souvenir shops, casinos, old motels, pawn shops, etc.  But there has been major renovation with new hotels, a convention center, pedestrian walkway – much, much improved, although most of the retail space with the convention center is vacant (except for Starbucks!).

I skipped lunch to go for a bike ride; it had to be 26 miles.  It wasn’t the best ride (1) I went out downhill and with the wind – and had to crawl back. (2) A police officer came up behind me and with a very loud speaker system told met I couldn’t ride on the road I was on. (3) I discovered my back tire is completely worn out.  BUT IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT RIDE BECAUSE I HAVE NOW RIDDEN 100,000 MILES ON MY BICYCLES SINCE JAN 1990   (65% of this is since retiring in Jan 2000).

A huge CONGRATS on the 100,000 mile benchmark. I can't believe that!!!

Congratulations on the 100k milestone - awesome. I love Niagara Falls and hope to go back again. Thanks for the pictures. What are you current thoughts and feelings regarding the end in seven days?

How many miles on each continent?

...and why couldn't you ride on that road? What reason did the "nice policeman with the very loud speaker" give you? Most importantly, what did you do?

John is a rebel he hit the nice policeman and rode on or did you?

Why did you not start counting until 1990? Was that when you first got a computer to be able to keep track?

Let me know if I need to call one of my lawyer buddies in New York. Would certainly send your blog over the top if it involves bail money. ;)

100K is really unbelievable - congrats!
