NWTR Pre-Tour

We’re in Spokane, Washington where today’s high temperature was about 30 degrees less than Dallas.

NWTR PT 006Six couples, all friends, are here for the Northwest Tandem Rally, which will be held over the Fourth of July weekend.  Two of the couples live in Winthrop, Washington and two others have a second home there.  Then there are the two odd couples from Ardmore, Oklahoma and Dallas.

NWTR PT 017We just completed the four days prior to the rally on a “pre-tour”, riding from town to town in NE Washington and Idaho “self contained”.  A “self-contained” cyclist carries all of his/her/their possessions on the bicycle in “panniers” – or “saddle bags” if you’re from Oklahoma or Texas.  The challenge is to take all you need, anticipating different weather conditions and possible break-downs, but not to carry one ounce more than you need.  Carrying that extra weight is no fun, particularly when you are climbing hills.  And there are plenty of steep hills where we are.

Our itinerary

  • NWTR PT 013Tuesday – Spokane to the luxurious Coeur d'Alene Casino in Worley, Idaho.
  • Wednesday – 72 miles from the casino to Cofax, Wa.
  • Thursday – 56 miles from Cofax to Chene, Wa.
  • Friday – 22 miles back to Spokane.

We have great weather, varying from 50 to mid 70’s and no rain.  And the scenery is stunning, as you’ll see below.
